True health is more than the absence of disease. When healthy, our physical systems function harmoniously and our ability to meet life and all its demands is kept in balance. The stresses and strains of modern life impact on us both physically and mentally, often becoming so deeply embedded within us that without support we are unable to truly return to health. Our emotions leave an imprint on our bodies, influencing our reactions, drive and ability to relate to both those closest to us and those we encounter in day to day life. If blocked emotions and thought patterns are to be truly released then muscles and tissues must be simultaneously freed – an open flexible body can support and open flexible mind.
I have developed Total Balance to help you address deep rooted imbalances. Using a combination of Chinese 5 Element Theory and Hatha Yoga, I will work with you to not only guide your body and mind to a place of natural balance but also teach you techniques to ensure your progress can continue at home. The work involves the use of yoga asanas and breath work, which when combined with shiatsu and mindfulness techniques allow both physical and mental restrictions to be shed. The body is supported back to natural alignment and chronic patterns of tension, stress and pain are released. A sense of ease, along with more energy and mobility is the result.
The underlying principle of Total Balance is that it will move you towards a goal - that may be better posture, health, release from chronic anxiety or self esteem issues, or simply as support whilst other life changes are being made. Each course lasts for seven sessions, comprising an hour and a half of guided movement, shiatsu and breath awareness exercises.
What to expect
Total Balance should be seen as an investment in both your health and an education in how your body supports you. The programme consists of seven sessions – an initial appointment during which we will discuss your health, needs and expectations, as well as your physical alignment and movement patterns. This will be followed by six appointments which will involve yoga asanas, shiatsu, breathwork, relaxation techniques and dietary advice. You will have the space and time needed to become familiar with your body and recognize where it needs support and attention. You will also gain the confidence to use breath and movement to guide yourself to improved wellbeing.
My experience as a physical therapist and yoga teacher allows me intuitive insight and understanding to tailor sessions specifically to your requirements, whether they are physical or emotional. The work that takes place during the programme will be supported with a personal file containing details of suitable home practice, lifestyle and dietary changes.
